Brief Bio of Rachel Wong
Rachel has been playing the violin since the age of six. She currently studies with Mr. Simon James of the Seattle Symphony and before that with the late Mr. Kent Coleman from 2000-2007. She also studies periodically with Professor Brian Lewis, University of Texas, at Austin.
In February, she debuted with the Seattle Symphony as winner of Seattle Symphony Young Artist Invitational (2008). Last year Rachel played with violinist Mark O'Connor at Benaroya Hall in Seattle Symphony's Fiddlin' Fun Concert. Rachel has also soloed with the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy Chamber Orchestra, Port Gardner Bay Orchestra, and Everett Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Among Rachel's other awards, she was winner of the Seattle Young Artist Music festival's Concerto Competition in 2003 and 2007. In 2005, she took 2nd place in the Music Teacher's National Association Junior Strings Competition. Rachel has also performed in recital at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival's Emerging Artist Concert, at the Lakeside School, (2007), and was invited to play for the Seattle Rotary Club in 2007 as well.
Rachel has also had many master classes, given by artists including Mr.James Ehnes, Gerardo Ribeiro, Elizabeth Pitcairn, Mauricio Fuks and Peter Zazofsky, among others. Rachel also collaborates with coach and accompanist Hiro David, and studies music theory with her as well. Last summer, Rachel attended the Brian Lewis Young Artists Program, studying with artists Brian Lewis, Stephanie Chase, Stephen Clapp, Elizabeth Suh Lane, Pamela Viktoria Pyle, and Pasha Zabouri.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys reading, playing many sports, and playing with her rabbits.
