 Brief Bio of Kevin Lee

Kevin Lee, a junior at Issaquah High School, started the violin at the age of 5. He has been educated in the past by multiple teachers, including the late Yuko Honda, Jan Coleman, and the late Kent Coleman. Currently, he is under the tutelage of Simon James, second assistant concertmaster of the Seattle Symphony.


Kevin, as a soloist, has won the Evergreen Philharmonic's 2008 Concerto Competition, has received an Honorable Mention (2008) and Third Place Prize (2009) in the Senior Division of the Simon Fiset Strings Competition, received Seals of Recognition in the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival, placed as First Alternate in the Violin Division of the Eastshore Solo and Ensemble Contest, and has also been repeatedly invited to perform in the Seattle-Japan Suzuki Institute Honors Recitals. In 2005, he was selected for the Honda Performance Group, a branch of the Honda Violin Studio, and has also participated in master classes hosted by Quinton Morris, Brian Lewis, and Ani Kavafian.


As a chamber musician, Kevin studies at the Academy of Music Northwest. He has been routinely selected to perform through an audition process at the Academy of Music Northwest’s Annual Benefit Concerts, has won Second Place in the Washington State Solo and Ensemble Contest as concertmaster/leader of the IHS String Ensemble (2009) and won the Eastshore Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest as second violinist in the Cypress4 String Quartet (2008). His coaches include Hiro David, Karen Iglitzen, and Alison Austin.


As an orchestral member, Kevin has been accepted into the Seattle Youth Symphonies (including Youth), the Evergreen Philharmonic, and the Academy Chamber Orchestra, often in concertmaster or assistant concertmaster roles. Professionally Kevin has also played in the Rainier Symphony under Maestro David Waltman, the premier of the Velveteen Rabbit as composed by Conan McLemore and conducted by Dr.David Upham, and the Ballet Bellevue Orchestra for performances of Sleeping Beauty under Maestro Alan Futterman.
